Who are the Kings?

The Math, Engineering, Technology, and Science Academy (METSA) - RC Lions team is housed within R.L. Turner High School in Carrollton, TX. The school is part of the Carrollton-Farmers Branch school district and is just 20 miles north of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. Two career-technology (CTE) courses are now offered as part of the academy's engineering strand. Both courses concurrently feed into the league's STEM Challenge that allows students to form teams around two 1:10 scale cars. Students play the role of designers, engineers , and professional race car drivers as they compete throughout the year  on various challenges to reach the national competition. This year's finals competition will be held at Royal Purple Raceway in Houston, TX. Along with the two courses for project development, students begin meeting second semester on Tuesday's and Thursday's from 3:45-5:00.  Students also work on their projects on Saturdays from 8:00am - 12:00pm.

Challenges (click on the title of each challenge for project details):

Energy- Evaluate an energy-related and engineer a solution that has a balanced energy budget.

Innovation - Combine software and hardware to create something new (even if it is just new to you!).

Racing - Engineer a 1:10 scale electric RC car that is fast and handles well. Compete in time trials and head-to-head races on road courses, oval superspeedways and drag strips.
